Rafferty Reservoir has become known
as the new walleye hot spot
among the Saskatchewan anglers as well as the hundreds of out
of province fishermen that have made the trip to test their skills.
The reservoirs southerly location, warm water temperatures and
great size have created a unique body of water in the fact
it provides' the province with an excellent fishery and at the
same time creates an opportunity for numerous residents living
in the south, as well as southern tourists, to enjoy the sport
of fishing without having to travel long distances to our northern
lakes.
Fish Facts
- The Stocking Program on Rafferty began
in 1992 and basically ended in 1999. Over these 8 years
and after substantial test netting, weighing, counting
& measuring, S.E.R.M concluded from all the tests
and studies that the growth rates and the survival rates
of the stocked walleye were well above average and towards
the end of the program, the walleye were reproducing on
their own. The reservoir was again test netted in 2003
but the findings have not been published.
- Number of fish Stocked in Rafferty
was approximately 23 million wall-eye and 8 thousand perch.
The pike populations in the river system have always been
excellent.

- Daily Catch Limits (also your possession
limits) were lowered in the 1999 season. If you visit
Rafferty, please be aware that your limits are lower on
this reservoir then they are on neighboring bodies of
water.

Perch.............10
Pike................6
- The Reason for Lowering the Limits was
because of the severity of the 1998 harvest. During the
1998 season, over 21000 anglers harvested 89,600 lbs.
of walleye, 1500 lbs. of perch and 15,000 lbs. of northern
pike, The reservoir could not withstand that kind of fishing
pressure, so for the long term success of this fishery,
the limits were lowered.
- The Largest Recorded Fish taken was
an 8 lb. walleye and a 32 lb. pike
- Fishing Licenses and Boat Rentals are
available at "The Store".

Ice Fishing
For a lot of people, our winter means the end of
the fishing season. Not at Mainprize! Ice fishing is a great winter
pass time and the Rafferty has produced numerous record pike,
excellent catches of walleye and perch over a pound that anglers
will debate for some time to come.
